Minnesota GOP Converntion 2008!
Yesterday was an interesting day. Ron Paul supporters tried their best to get their delegates on the ballot to no avail. Now I agree with some of Paul's platform, but not all of it. McCain could use a little bit more, no a LOT bit more mixed into his platform. But McCain like him or not is the "presumptive" nominee and is still a better choice then Hussein Obama or Hillary.
But at the end of the day Coleman was endorsed and made a good speech, John Kline spoke and I got to speak with Marty Seifert. No pictures of that unfortunately. It was a great day and afterwards the delegates, about 14 or 15 of us from Rice County BPOU went over to Michaels Restaurant and courtesy of Mr Doug Jones, BPOU co-chair had a great meal and good times were had.
Here are a few articles from others.

Tell Congress: Stop a $1.2 Trillion Cap-and-Trade Tax Hike!
The U.S. Senate will soon debate a bill that would impose a "cap-and-trade" energy policy on the American people. The result would be more tax money for the government, a vast new web of bureaucracy, and a devastated economy. The last thing we need in uncertain economic times is a huge tax-and-spend debacle.
Despite rhetoric to the contrary, this legislation is not a "market solution." No bill that includes $1.2 trillion in tax increases and massive regulatory burdens could fit that description. Contact your Senators and tell them to reject this tax-and-spend nightmare!
What's At Stake: First and foremost, the cap-and-trade bill amounts to a huge tax hike. Though the mechanism obscures the fact slightly, this bill effectively imposes a substantial carbon tax. Capping emissions and requiring entities to purchase additional allowances from the federal government will lead to an explosion in revenue. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the tax increase adds up to nearly $1.2 trillion over just a seven-year period from implementation in 2012 to 2018. Enacting S. 2191 would also tremendously harm economic growth and job expansion. An analysis by the Heritage Foundation estimated that Gross Domestic Product losses as a result of the legislation between 2010 and 2030 would range from $1.7 trillion to $4.8 trillion. Job losses could exceed 700,000 in 2015 alone. CBO also projects that the cost of S. 2191's private-sector mandates would amount to more than $90 billion per year from 2012 to 2016. These costs would severely undermine America's ability to attract businesses and capital. Meanwhile, the bill would drain household budgets by increasing natural gas and electricity prices for American families. In addition to the aforementioned costs, the Lieberman-Warner bill contains troubling regulatory implications. The Environmental Protection Agency would be charged with the daunting task of establishing emissions allowances for thousands of American manufacturers and electricity generators, no doubt requiring an army of bureaucrats in the process. It would also subject international trade to new tariffs, further walling us off from the global marketplace. This bill represents the first of many enormous tax-and-spend projects to be debated in the name of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Soundly defeating Lieberman-Warner would prove that a huge expansion in government power is not the answer to our problems.
Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Hussein Obama, Illegals, Health Care, Gas Prices.
From Big Dogs Weblog.
Nancy Pelosi showed her true liberal colors and she distorted the truth. This is what they always do. Remember, she and her Democrats were going to fix the gasoline price problems, they were going to stop the war, they were going to do it all. One of them recently admitted that thye lied to America because they knew they could not. Keep this in mind when you hear them spouting off, they will lie to you in order to get your vote.
Big Government
Marches forward with this creation from Lieberman (I-CT) and Warner (R-WV).
WSJ has more.Gas Prices
Notice the price increase? Look who is controlling the House? And you want to continue voting these anti business, anti free economy, big government, the hell with individual freedoms liberals into office? My paycheck is not big enough to cover all the increases!!

Faithless, Broken Promises
Democrats!! Or should I say "loser" Harry Reid!WASHINGTON, (christiansunite.com) -- The American people have repeatedly pleaded with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) to stop partisan politics and move along on President Bush's judicial nominees. But apparently the people's outcry has fallen on deaf ears, again. Today, Sen. Reid "officially" breaks a promise he made to the American people back on April 15th to confirm at least three judicial nominees by the Memorial Day recess.
Hussein Obama
Having served in both Iraq and Afghanistan I think Obama's out of hand dismissal of McCain's proposal that he visit the two countries is patently and pathetically cowardly.

The Anti - Gore
Washington - Czech President Vaclav Klaus said Tuesday he is ready to debate Al Gore about global warming, as he presented the English version of his latest book that argues environmentalism poses a threat to basic human freedoms. "I many times tried to talk to have a public exchange of views with him, and he's not too much willing to make such a conversation," Klaus said. "So I'm ready to do it."
Klaus was speaking a the National Press Building in Washington to present his new book, "Blue Planet in Green Shackles - What Is Endangered: Climate or Freedom?", before meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney Wednesday.
"My answer is it is our freedom and, I might add, and our prosperity," he said.

The 2008 Minnesota Legislative Session in Review: Hype versus Reality
The 85th legislature adjourned on Sunday, May 18 and at that very moment, the 2008 election season began. What had originally been four months of highly contentious legislative wrestling is now being portrayed as one of the most successful sessions in decades. At Mondays press conference, legislative leaders from both sides of the aisle flanked the governor and touted the accomplishments of the 2008 session.
The DFL-controlled legislature had an aggressive agenda from the very beginning of the session to raise taxes, increase government spending, expand regulations and implement social engineering programs. While Republican minority leaders fought valiantly to block most of these measures, some caucus members broke ranks with leadership, thereby allowing some of these bills to slip through.
Thankfully, Governor Pawlenty vetoed many bills such as Mandatory Comprehensive Sex Education, Legalized Gestational Surrogacy, Infant DNA Warehousing and Local Government Domestic Partnerships. But the governors veto of the Transportation bill was overridden by six wayward Republican House members, thereby allowing one of the largest tax increases in Minnesotas history to be passed into law.
The sound bytes being fed to Minnesotans by the mainstream media dont begin to tell the whole story behind the 2008 legislative session. Our analysis seeks to separate the hype from the reality, thereby allowing Minnesotans to assess what they really got out of this years session.
Hype: A $935 million budget deficit was erased and the budget balanced without raising taxes.
Reality: The budget fix was nothing more than a band-aid and taxes were raised significantly. Lest we forget, the override of the governors transportation bill veto cost us a $6.6 billion tax increase on sales, fuel and vehicle registrations. And if approved by voters this November, Minnesotans will be paying more in state sales taxes to fund arts programs and wildlife habitat.
The final budget deal also included a $125 million tax increase on corporations with foreign operations. This was sold to the public as closing a corporate loophole, as if corporations were doing something underhanded. In reality, this provision was enacted by the state legislature years ago to avoid driving corporations with foreign operations out of Minnesota.
Senate Minority Leader David Senjem (R - Rochester) cautioned that the fix relied too heavily on tapping the state's rainy day reserve fund and not enough on actual spending cuts. Nearly $500 million needed to balance the budget came from the states rainy day fund, tapping about 80% of the funds reserves. Senjem predicts the result will be a much worse budget problem in 2009.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hype: A 3.9% property tax cap resulting in $460 million in property tax reductions.
Reality: When does a tax increase become a reduction? When the government doesnt raise taxes as much as they otherwise would, its billed as a tax cut. This is like expecting to gain 30 pounds and stepping on the scale to discover only a 20-pound gain. Using legislative math, thats a ten-pound weight loss.
Most politicians somehow failed to mention that while they were creating the property tax cap, they were simultaneously increasing local government aid by $60 million. This sleight of hand maneuver essentially took taxpayer money out of one pocket and put it in another, thereby diluting the real impact of the property tax cap.
The so-called cap includes exemptions that allow communities to exceed 3.9%. Local governments can exceed the cap for things like population growth and emergency services. The cap also doesnt include local school district referendums. And what happens when cities blow their budgets on non-essentials and then need more funding for police and fire departments, or when the cap expires in three years time? This cap is really more like an open-top visor. In reality, many Minnesotans will see property tax increases that well exceed 3.9% and their projected savings to Minnesota taxpayers will be nowhere near the claimed $460 million.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hype: Nation-leading health care reform that includes increased transparency, pay for performance, e-prescribing and tax credits.
Reality: While there are some positive aspects of the health care bill like greater consumer transparency and electronic prescriptions, its major thrust is to grow government involvement and enroll more families onto state-subsidized health care. Families making up to $57,000 now qualify for state welfare health plans, adding thousands of new people to taxpayer-funded health care. The bill adds insult to injury by offering a bounty to outfits (schools, non-profit groups, insurance brokers, etc) that recruit new dependents to feed at the public trough.
Grants are doled-out to local community health boards (more government bureaucracy) to try to enforce lifestyle changes targeting weight-loss and smoking cessation.
Government bureaucrats are given the power to define quality, determine physician compensation incentives based upon this definition and even decide what procedures are medically necessary.
Bottom line: this bill expands government involvement in health care, which will ultimately result in higher costs for patients and taxpayers. Unmet hospital costs resulting from the legislation will mean non-subsidized families will see an increase in their insurance premiums and doctor bills. Taxpayers will pick up the tab for the thousands of new people added to welfare health plans.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hype: The Central Corridor light rail line will ease traffic congestion and improve the environment.
Reality: The Central Corridor line, like the Hiawatha line, will be built at traffic grade, meaning it will significantly interfere with automotive traffic and eliminate most street parking. Delays at intersections will mean more idling vehicles, more congestion, more wasted fuel and more exhaust emissions. For some reason, no study was conducted to compare the rail transit proposal to bus transit for the Central Corridor.
The real reason Minnesota lawmakers allocated $70 million for the Central Corridor this session was that the state was in jeopardy of loosing $450 million in federal funding for the project. Even at that, it begs the question of where the rest of the money is going to come from to build a line that will cost more than $1 billion. The construction costs are just the first installment. Most, if not all, light rail lines across the country operate at a net loss and rely upon significant ongoing taxpayer funding to stay afloat. This means Minnesota taxpayers will have to annually ante-up on this boondoggle project for years to come.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, in the end, how did everyday Minnesotans really fare out of the session? Our approach to answering this question is to evaluate the sessions results within the context of some of our core values:
Q. Were there any meaningful reductions in government spending?
A. No. Despite this years budget deficit, the state legislature actually increased spending by 9.8%. House Minority Leader Rep. Marty Seifert (R Marshall) said, It is unfortunate that private sector job growth took a backburner to an expensive and explosive growth in government programs and services.
Q. Were there reductions in taxes?
A. No, in fact there was a record $6.6 billion tax increase with the transportation bill. And other legislation, like the Green Solutions Act, sets the stage for the implementation of a carbon cap and trade system that will levy a huge tax increase upon all energy consumption in our state in the future.
Q. Were there reductions in the governments involvement in the lives of everyday citizens?
A. No, in fact there were increases in government involvement in areas like ticket sales, teen drivers and car windows. Creeping socialism was especially evident in the health care legislation with tobacco and weight control funding while building a nice long electronic list for universal health care.
Q. Did the legislature create a more business-friendly environment that would encourage businesses to come to Minnesota?
A. No, in fact they made our business climate less friendly to business. Case in point Northwest and Delta declined to locate their newly merged corporate headquarters in Minnesota.
Q. Did the legislature pass laws that encouraged greater personal responsibility?
A. No, in fact the state created additional dependents with legislation like the health care bill.
Q. Did the legislature protect our states sovereignty by combating the problem of illegal aliens?
A. No. While Governor Pawlenty did issue a number of executive orders strengthening laws to combat illegal aliens, the DFL-controlled legislature resisted all attempts to pass this type of legislation. This is hard to imagine in a year when four innocent children lost their lives as a result of an illegal alien.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Who were the real winners out of this years session? Clearly it was the special interests. Folks like the Ghermezian Brothers who can now build their new Mall of America parking lot on the backs of local property owners. Or the construction companies that lobbied hard for the $6.6 billion transportation tax increase that can now line their pockets with the proceeds. And dont forget the $38 million expansion for the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center.
The best thing we can say about the 2008 legislative session is that it is finally over. The damage could have been a lot worse, but it also begs the question, Is this the best that Minnesotans can expect from their elected officials? In our humble opinion, voters will need to make some dramatic changes in their representation this November if they want to see different outcomes in the next biennium.
More Obama idiocy!!
Since you adhere to the Marxist notion that dealing with shortages is best done by restricting, rather than increasing supply, let's go back to the tried and true: rationing.
You know, just about every gas pump in America has a card reader for paying at the pump. We could fix it so those card readers only read one card. The federal Fuel Allocation Disbursement card. The FAD card can be preloaded to dispense only a certain amount of gas per month. That would get those overfed Americans out of their SUVs in a hurry! You could do it all with an executive order, just like Jimmy Carter and the national 55 MPH speed limit!
Scientists Rejecting Global Warming
Striking Out on Energy
Mr. Bush went hat in hand to the Saudis to ask for more oil production in order to bring down world prices. He whiffed. They said no for the second time this year.
ExxonMobil chairman and CEO Rex Tillerson said it’s “astonishing” that Mr. Bush keeps asking Saudi Arabia to pump more oil, rather than working harder for increased oil production at home. Mr. Tillerson called this “terribly upside down,” and went on to say the president should be fighting to open U.S. coastal waters to drilling and production on the outer continental shelf. He correctly wants to end the federal moratorium on such off-shore drilling, where kajillions of barrels of oil and natural gas are being completely ignored.
Motorists are furious with oil at $125 a barrel and a $4 pump price for gas. And they seem to be taking it out on the GOP. That may not be fair, since Mr. Bush does favor a pro-production energy policy that includes off-shore drilling, building refineries, clean-coal development, oil sands, natural gas, and nuclear power. But Democrats in Congress stridently oppose these ideas, as does Hill-Bama on the campaign trail. They want an excess-profits tax. Brilliant.
Does the government ever mention how they are going to control costs? Downsize? The Government is an over bloated money sucking (ours) entity. I
Well he seems to be somewhere just short of what the other two are!
It's time to quit listening to false promises and false hopes and remember what got us to where we are. Hard work and self reliance. You don't see to much of that today as the State and Feds are doing their damn best to tell us what we need, what we should do and how we should get it.
We do not need a nanny state, we need elected politicians whom respond to us and tell the truth and do not have an special interest agenda telling them what to do and who to screw over. Like our teacher unionists here in Northfield!!
Bail out
Last Thursday the House of Representatives voted 266-154 to advance a $300 billion program of taxpayer-financed mortgages to home speculators and their lenders.
The bill does not protect taxpayers. The bill gives six-figure taxpayer loans to people who have terrible credit scores and to people who have made fewer than 12 payments on their existing mortgages. The bill even provides these taxpayer handouts to non-citizens. The plan lets banks cherry-pick the worst loans in their portfolios and sticks taxpayers with 100 percent of the risk.
Television Today
I would watch if we had television shows from a bygone era.
Gunsmoke and the Rifleman (as well as Bonanza and several others) quietly proclaim certain virtues that we have lost in modern culture. The great value of friends and family as the basis of a decent society are stated in a hundred different ways. The importance of personal integrity is a constant theme. Self-reliance is also prominent in nearly every episode.
But these westerns are not afraid to challenge authority (the government) when it is manifestly immoral. Following the spirit of the law, not the letter, is important. Those issues we have come to call “social justice” (in the original and best sense of the word) also pop up. Native Americans are treated as human beings, and this was long before AIM or any other activism. Blacks are also treated with great respect, and this was before the Civil Rights Movement. Although women are treated as ladies by the good guys, the strength of frontier women - and they were strong in every way - is nearly always present.
Freedom of Religion
Freedom of Religion! It says so in the Bill of Rights!! Anyone remember them? Especially you religion hating liberals?
Well we do win a few over your objections.
We want a Conservative.
Have you considered the possibility that we Conservatives do not want four or eight more years of misgovernment mislabeled as Conservatism?All of it!
* Senator John McCain sided with the Democrats in frustrating Republican efforts to stop the Filibuster of judicial nominees.
* He co-authored McCain-Feingold, in violation of the first amendment.
* He wants to give terrorists captured on the battlefield the constitutional rights afforded to American citizens charged with domestic criminal offenses.
* He wants to leave our borders open and grant amnesty to illegal aliens.
* He panders to the Socialists with blather about "global warming" and caps on carbon dioxide emissions, which will ruin our economy and throw many people out of work.
So, I am supposed to vote for that RINO just because he will somehow win the war on terror? Yeah, wrong, he does not know who the enemy is! He blathers about "radical Islamic extremists" when the enemy is Islam.
In an interview with Dan Gilgoff, Senator McCain said::
"I admire the Islam. There's a lot of good principles in it. I think one of the great tragedies of the 21st century is that these forces of evil have perverted what's basically an honorable religion."
Good principles, such as:
* imperialistic conquest: fighting Pagans until all resistance ceases and only Allah is worshiped [Al-Anfal 39 ]
* fighting Jews and Christians until we are subjugated and pay extortion [Al-Taubah 29] [Sahih Bukhari Volume 1, Book 8, Number 387]
* genocide: making a great slaughter is the entry ticket to Paradise [Al-Anfal 67] [Sunan Abu Dawud Book 38, Number 4390]
* terror sanctified as a battle tactic [Al-Anfal 12] [Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 52, Number 220]
* If the "forces of evil" "perverted" Islam, they did it 1385 years ago when Muhammad began his career of rapine with raids on camel caravans. What must a Muslim do to be saved?
O You who believe! Shall I guide you to a commerce that will save you from a painful torment. That you believe in Allâh and His Messenger (Muhammad), and that you strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allâh with your wealth and your lives, that will be better for you, if you but know! - If the tax cuts expire, income-tax revenues by 2018 will rise to 10.8 percent of the total economy from 8.7 percent today -- an increase of 24 percent.
- Compared to the average over the last 50 years, allowing the rates to rise would increase tax revenues by 32 percent.
Income taxes will rise even if the tax cuts remain in place, because the revenue-increasing effects of bracket creep more than offset the lower rates, says Biggs:
- With the lower rates, total income-tax revenues will increase to 9.3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2018.
- This level is 7 percent higher than today, and 13 percent above the 1957-2007 average.
Democrat an epithet
Truth be known, our founding fathers coined this term due to their justifiably fear of democracy, which is precisely why our nation was founded as a Republic, which is another fact that liberals hate. (Note: Liberals hijacked the good Democrat party of Presidents Truman and Kennedy in the 20th Century.
You see, liberals base their agenda on appeasing the masses through class warfare, race baiting and demagoguery. The stoop to the lowest common denominator in the gene pool from which to gather votes and then systematically destroy the lives of the self-reliant producers of our society.
To truly gain an understanding of where liberals (not today’s old-school Democrats) will lead our nation, one needs to page homage to the very cities that have been controlled by liberals for the past half-century. Liberals like to claim that they can foster change and make things better, but their track record tells another story. They have blazed a path of broken homes, failing schools, soaring crime rates, poverty and corruption. They have chased away hardworking families and big business and replaced them with drug addicts and the unemployed.
By contrast, suburbia and small town America has become the bastion of conservatives, where poverty is rate and even government education is somewhat acceptable. Through the prism of liberal elites, these are small-minded Americans who rely on guns and God. Through the prism of common sense, these are the “brightest” of Americans who have found a way to escape the grasp of big government who does nothing but inhibit life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The Truth About Biofuels
Ethanol DamageFor instance:
- To create just one gallon of fuel, ethanol slurps up 1,700 gallons of water, according to Cornell's David Pimentel, and 51 cents of tax credits.
- And it still can't compete against oil without a protective 54-cents-per-gallon tariff on imports and a federal mandate that forces it into our gas tanks.
- The record 30 million acres the United States will devote to ethanol production this year will consume almost a third of America's corn crop while yielding fuel amounting to less than 3 percent of petroleum consumption.
Now scientists are showing that ethanol will exacerbate greenhouse gas emissions:
Article here.
- Corn-based ethanol, instead of producing a 20 percent savings, nearly doubles greenhouse emissions over 30 years, according to a report in the journal Science.
- Biofuels from switchgrass, if grown on U.S. corn lands, increase emissions by 50 percent.
- Markets for biofuel encourage farmers to level forests and convert wilderness into cropland, in order to replace the land diverted from food to fuel, says Princeton's Timothy Searchinger and colleagues at Iowa State.
They won't what?
George Soros
George Soros is a Hungarian born socialist billionaire who now resides
in the U.S. Soros, who wants everybody (but himself) to be equally
poor, was convicted in France of insider trading.There is the story of the fellow who murdered his parents and then
pled to the court for mercy because he was an orphan. Similarly,
George Soros, having lost on appeal to France’s highest court then
appealed to the European Court of Human Rights (which is still
pending) on the grounds that the French process took too long.Who is he backing for President?
And McCain our "Conservative candidate" HA!!!
Soros is not ignoring direct involvement in the U.S. He pumped big
bucks into the anti-gun show referendum campaign of Americans for
Gun Safety in 2000. Presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain was
the pitchman for this attack on the Second Amendment in the Colorado
and Oregon referenda of that year.
Dykes oppress
stupidly. Of course looking at the picture it quite obvious why they are dykes, errr lesbians, what male in his right mind would touch that!!!Hillary on "The Factor"
But found this and once again shows the indecisiveness of Hillary.
When Bill O’Reilly turned to the immigration debate, he asked, “Will you shut down sanctuary cities?” Hillary responded, “No, I will not.”
Senator Clinton voted against the Coleman Amendment which would have banned sanctuary cities (Roll Call 177).
Last August, several African-American college-bound teenagers were brutally murdered while listening to music in a playground in Newark, New Jersey, one of many US sanctuary cities. Although Newark is no stranger to violence, the perpetrator was an illegal alien from Peru, who had been previously charged with raping a 5-year-old girl, but was released despite his obvious illegal presence in this country.
She slammed the Republicans — especially those in the Bush Administration — for allowing American citizens to be victmized by illegal alien predators.
All of it here.
New York, New York
Pelosi Tales
Almost two years ago to the day, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), announced that she had a “commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices (Release 4/24/06)”.
Where is it?
Democrats won control of Congress partly because of such promises. The day she took over as speaker, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.33. Today, it’s $3.60. This $1.27 “Pelosi Premium” is the single most pernicious factor behind the struggling economy in general and middle class anxiety. Recent polls demonstrate rising gas prices are the most important economic issue facing Americans today. And here’s the thing: it’s all their fault.
Keep voting Democrat and keep paying more!!!
Hope?
We can hope it happens here also!!
Unfit Unpatriotic
Look at the picture! How many illegals?
Do you see German, English, Irish, Norwegian, Swedish, Polish, Czech or Slovakian immigrants parading around waving flags other then the US of A's flag?
NO!
But you see these unpatriotic, illegals doing so! How many illegals are NOT paying taxes? How many are sucking up our tax dollars through health care, public education and all the other welfare programs there are? Especially in Minnesota?
Send them back to their homeland, south of the Rio Grande and do it quick!!
You want to live here? Be legal about it! Enter legally and become a CITIZEN! All you politicians whom DO NOT support deporting illegals or support Sanctuary Cities, need to go!!
Why Unions Suck!
Dock Workers Stay Shut Down Docks: For Benefits? No, to Protest War!
Warner Todd Huston on May 01 2008 at 5:31 pm | Filed under: Shaking Down Socialistic Squirrels and other nuts!
-By Warner Todd Huston
Is national security policy any business of a dock workers union? Just think about that for a second. Should some union, just because they have the power to shut down a vital business, take advantage of that capability for ANY reason outside of their direct concerns with their jobs? What other reasons beside their actual business should they be allowed to inconvenience the whole country for? Should dock workers be able to cost the country billions of lost business because, say, they are upset that the L.A. Lakers aren’t doing so well this season? Maybe they’ll shut down the entire west coast because the right person didn’t win on “American Idol”?
In any case, a protest of the Iraq war (something that is not the union’s business either directly or even indirectly) is why union thug Bob McEllrath sadi that the dock workers all walked off the job today.
All 29 ports on the West Coast, including the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, have been effectively shut down this morning as thousands of dockworkers stayed home to protest the Iraq war. The walkout comes two months before the contract between dockworkers and and port operators expires. Louis Sahagun has the story:
“We are supporting the troops and telling politicians in Washington that it’s time to end the war in Iraq,” union president Bob McEllrath said.
What the government does in Iraq is NONE of the union’s business. Certainly as American citizens it is the business of each member. but this has nothing whatsoever to do with union business. This is an illegitimate strike and each and every one of these “workers” should be fired immediately.
This is an unconscionable misuse of the power of a union.
One more reason
Narco-Terrorism.
Ted and words of wisdom
Well I hope!
But this I think will be COOL!!
Ironman Again!
Energy InDependence?
Nuclear power is inexpensive, clean and efficient, yet due to actions by the federal and state governments, a new nuclear power plant has not been constructed in the US in over 30 years. The US has been called the Saudi Arabia of coal, because of the tremendous abundance of the fuel present within our borders, yet states are enacting moratoriums on the construction of new clean coal-fired plants. A 2,000 acre plot of land in the 19 million acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) holds the potential to increase domestic oil production by 20%. That’s the equivalent of 27 million gallons of gasoline and diesel per day, and would rival Saudi Arabia’s exports, but Congress has forbidden drilling for oil in ANWR. Increased domestic oil-drilling and construction of new oil refineries would undoubtedly drive gas prices down, but thanks to irrational policies, we’re paying $3.50 a gallon or more at the pump and the price is expected to continue rising.
They do this.
We are witnessing examples of this even within state-level policy proposals. Debating an energy bill (SF3337) in the Minnesota House on April 23rd, Representative Tom Hackbarth (R – Cedar) introduced an amendment that would remove Minnesota’s long-standing moratorium on new nuclear power plants. Predictably, the amendment was defeated, continuing the cycle of calling for energy independence while simultaneously working against it.All of it.
Free Speech Lost?
Why We’re Losing Our Right to Speak Out
By Chuck Colson
Thursday, May 1, 2008David Woodward is a political science professor at Clemson University—one who has first-hand experience on how dangerous it can be to speak out in favor of traditional values: He almost lost his job over it.
In 1993, Woodward was asked to testify about the political power of homosexual groups in American life. He agreed to serve as an expert witness for the state of Colorado, which was fighting to defend the recently passed Amendment Two, which made it illegal to give protected status based on sexual orientation.
In his new book, Why We Whisper: Restoring Our Right to Say It’s Wrong, co-authored by my friend, the able South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint, Woodward writes, “In that one decision, I unexpectedly jeopardized my academic career and entered . . . into the fiercest battle of the emergent culture wars.”
To publicly oppose the campaign for same-sex “marriage” and gay rights was, he writes, “the equivalent to being sent to the university Gulag.” He was denied an administrative position on the grounds that he was “ideologically incompatible” with the values of the university. He often found the word homophobe scribbled on his office door. The press viciously attacked him for his views.
But in private, Woodward was hearing a different message. People would call to whisper encouragement. So did parents and university staffers. Some students came into his office, carefully closed the door, and whispered their support. “The one thing they all had in common is that they were all scared, and they all spoke in whispers,” Woodward writes.
Homosexuality is not the only issue Americans can no longer speak freely about: Speaking up in support of any traditional belief will earn you attacks from secular elites. “Whether individual, parent, church, or business, Americans holding traditional values are trapped in a ‘whisper zone’,” Woodward and DeMint write, “surrounded by invisible electric fences that threaten to ‘shock’ them if they cross unmarked legal lines.”
